Open SPM
For Finance, RevOps and Sales Comp

Know the odds your comp plan blows the budget.

Open SPM runs your sales comp plan through thousands of simulated years. You see the P50 and P90 payout, the chance of an overrun and how big it would be, before anyone signs.

In use on a live FY27 planning cycle at a B2B identity-verification company.

Why a spreadsheet misses it

Accelerators make cost depend on the spread, not just the average.

A plan approved on its expected cost can still overrun in a large share of years. These three numbers come from Open SPM's own acceptance tests, and you can reproduce them.

+12%

Same average, wider spread

On a 30-Director plan at 95% average attainment, widening the spread from 5 to 45 points raises the expected payout by 12%. Move the spread slider above to watch it happen.

×2.75

When lower quotas pay for themselves

A team at 90% average with a wide spread costs 3.7% less than one at 100% with a narrow spread under a ×2.0 top tier. It costs more only once the top multiplier passes about ×2.75.

97.75%

Overassignment is not a margin

Quotas that add up to 115% of the target, delivered at 85% average attainment, produce 97.75% of the target. The plan looks covered and falls short.

How it works

From your plan to its P90 in one working session.

  1. Model the plan

Roles, components, tiers, floors, caps, team and roll-up quotas. Import the roster from any CSV; titles are matched to roles and levels for you.

  2. Simulate thousands of years

Attainment is drawn for every person. You get P50, P80 and P90 payout, the chance of a budget breach, the expected overrun and the cost of sales, plus a check that quotas can deliver the target.

  3. Compare and decide

Put two to four scenarios side by side with the differences highlighted. Export the workbook for Finance; every save is versioned and attributed.

What's in it today

Built for the people who defend the plan's cost.

Payout risk, not a point estimate

P50 to P90 payout, breach probability, expected overrun and cost-of-sales ratio for every scenario.

Live variance controls

Move average attainment and spread, and watch expected payout and P90 respond while you talk it through.

Quota realism and the hiring gap

Overassignment flags, expected production against the ACV target, and the hires needed to close the gap.

Plan design that checks itself

Marginal or cliff tiers, floors, caps, fixed and MBO components, with a live check that payout at 100% equals OTV.

Roster import

Upload the current roster as a CSV; Open SPM reads the columns, levels the titles and shows which roles are missing.

Scenarios Finance trusts

Versioned saves, side-by-side compare, Excel export, reproducible seeded runs and a record of who changed what.

Who it's for

One model the comp lead, RevOps and the CFO can all read.

Sales Compensation

Design the plan and defend its cost

Stop re-running every what-if by hand. Show the range of outcomes instead of a single number that nobody believes.

Revenue Operations

Hit the number with the right headcount

See whether quotas can deliver the ACV target at realistic attainment, and how many hires close the gap.

Finance

Approve the plan with its downside known

Sign off on the P80 or P90 and the odds of an overrun, from runs you can reproduce and export.

How early access works

It starts with a working session on your own plan.

  1. A 60-minute working sessionWith a comp-planning specialist, on one of your roles: you leave with its P50, P90 and breach odds.
  2. A 14-day trialYour own private instance, your roster imported, and a review with us on day 10.
  3. Then continue your wayA fixed-fee plan stress test or design sprint done with us, or a monthly or annual subscription to run planning yourselves.
Your data
  • Each customer gets its own instance and its own database.
  • Every save is versioned and records who made it and when.
  • Everything exports to Excel and CSV.
  • Seeded simulations reproduce exactly, run after run.
  • Banded or anonymized numbers work for the trial.
Questions

Before you book a session

Does this replace our commission software?

No. Open SPM is where you design and stress-test the plan before the year starts. Keep calculating and paying commissions in the system you use today, and hand the plan over as an Excel workbook.

What do we bring to the working session?

One role's plan: its tiers, quota, OTV and headcount, plus the commission budget. A roster CSV helps but is optional.

Can we use anonymized numbers?

Yes. Banded or anonymized figures answer the same plan-risk questions, so you can start without sharing real salaries.

Where does our data live?

In a private instance with its own database, used only by your team. Every change is recorded with who made it and when.

What does it cost?

After the trial there are two ways to continue: a fixed-fee service (a plan stress test or a design sprint) or a monthly or annual subscription. We quote after the working session, once we know the size of your plan.

Which plans can it model today?

Quota-based and fixed components, marginal or cliff tiers, floors, caps, and team and roll-up quotas, in US dollars. Ramp schedules, SPIFFs, clawbacks and other currencies are on the roadmap.
